The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of axitinib, a potent angiogenesis inhibitor, on tissue and clinical outcome in combination with chemotherapy given to patients with mesothelioma.
Primary outcome measures:
To test the impact of the addition of axitinib to standaard chemotherapy treatment on histology samples
The authors' conclusion was: Axitinib was well tolerated in combination with cisplatin and pemetrexed. Despite the lack of a clinical benefit, axitinib reduced angiogenesis. Whether changes in differentially expressed growth factors in tissue and serum may serve as a biomarker needs further investigation. …
