The randomized, open-label phase II/III treatment trial, identified as NCT03686202 - MET4-IO - Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors (ICIs) + Microbial Ecosystem Therapeutics 4 (MET-4) & Solid tumors, has provided groundbreaking insights. For the first time, researchers have reported on the use of a microbial consortium as an alternative to fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in patients with advanced cancer undergoing treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). The results from this study advocate for the ongoing development of microbial consortia as a therapeutic co-intervention alongside ICI treatment in cancer patients (1).
