Antibiotics (J01) that are currently approved typically work by reducing the bacteria that produce toxins, which leads to the resolution of symptoms. Despite this, the long-term effectiveness of these antibiotics is often limited. This is because they do not eliminate dormant C. difficile spores, nor do they address the disrupted microbiome, which is the root cause of recurrent disease.
