Bacillus cereus secrets the pore-forming toxin BL (HBL) as an exotoxin. This interacts primarily with LITAF (LPS-induced TNF-a factor), the HBL receptor on mammalian cells. Alternatively, Bacillus Haemolytic Enterotoxin (HBL) can interact with Cell Death-Inducing p53 Target 1 (CDIP1), an LTAF-like protein.
