Gut microbiota & Midazolam

In germ-free (GF) mice, the activity of hepatic Cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) and midazolam hydroxylase was notably reduced compared to specific pathogen-free (SPF) mice. Additionally, 180 minutes post-administration, the concentration of midazolam in the brain, which is the target tissue of midazolam, was approximately 14 times higher in GF mice than in SPF mice. The concentrations of midazolam in the liver and kidney collected from the GF mice were notably higher compared to those in the SPF mice.
