Protective proteins that are well-known encompass a variety of drug exporters and enzymes that either modify the drug or its target. These proteins vary in size and complexity, from large protein complexes such as the multidrug efflux pump AcrAB-TolC (1), which is approximately 215 kDa, to enzymes like beta-lactamases, which hold significant clinical importance, such as TEM1 (2), around 32 kDa. Additionally, there are smaller proteins, including the small multidrug resistance (SMR) protein EmrE (3), with a monomer size of about 12 kDa.
