Defibrillation is a medical treatment method used to address life-threatening heart rhythm disorders such as ventricular fibrillation. It involves the delivery of a controlled electric shock to the heart, typically through a device called a defibrillator, to restore normal heart activity. The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) defines defibrillation as the absence of the original rhythm disturbance.
