The term succinate-consuming bacteria refers to bacteria that utilize Succinate / Succinic acid as a carbon source for their metabolic processes. Succinate is a four-carbon dicarboxylic acid that plays a crucial role in the citric acid cycle (also known as the Krebs cycle), which is a key metabolic pathway that provides energy (ATP) in aerobic organisms.
