Background:

Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) is as effective as mesalazine in preventing disease relapse in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients; however, there is limited evidence regarding EcN's ability to enhance health-related quality of life or induce remission (1).

Study overview:

It is a multicentre, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical phase IV trial studying Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 / E. coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) or placebo in 133 randomized patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) (1)

Primary outcome measures:

Inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire (IBDQ) scores (1)
