Polyamines promote inflammation and proliferation of colon cancer cells
On the one hand, they reach the tumor cells via the polyamine transporter; on the other hand, the increased expression of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) in colon cancer cells is linked to increased polyamine biosynthesis
The enzyme ornithine decarboxylase can be inhibited by alfa-Difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) / Eflornithine, which reduces polyamine concentration. Therefore, the inhibition of the polyamine transporter by AMXT1501 and the inhibition of ODC by DFMO can be considered as potential anti-tumor strategies
