Primary outcome measures:
Incidence of diarrhea, defined by a CTC grade 2 or more, and the need for antidiarrheal medication.
Chitapanarux et al. 2010 published the results of lactobacillus acidophilus plus bidobacterium bifidum or placebo to cervical cancer patients with radiation-induced diarrhea during pelvic radiotherapy from a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with 63 subjects.
The authors' conclusion was: Live lactobacillus acidophilus plus bifidobacterium bifidum reduced the incidence of radiation-induced diarrhea and the need for anti-diarrheal medication and had a significant benefits on stool consistency.
