Recent research, including several randomized clinical trials and meta-analyses, indicates that the strongest “prebiotics-only” signal appears to be for HbA1c and some metabolic/inflammatory biomarkers in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, it is important to note that these improvements are generally modest in effect size. Small studies, different types of prebiotics, dosages, durations, and comparison designs limit the certainty of the conclusions (1, 2, 3, 4).
