The randomized, clinical phase III prevention trial, identified as NCT01839721 - Bifidobacterium longum BB536 + Lactobacillus acidophilus LAC-361 (Bifilact TM) & Diarrhea / Diarrhoea (radiation-induced), demonstrated that the standard dose of Bifilact TM may effectively reduce the occurrence of radiation-induced grade 2, 3, and 4 diarrhea by the conclusion of treatment in patients with pelvic cancer. Furthermore, for those patients who have undergone surgery before receiving radiation therapy, a standard dose of probiotics could assist in diminishing the incidence of grade 4 diarrhea induced by radiation.
