XXX(1) - Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) & Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (therapy-associated infections)

Background

Infection is a leading cause of death in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Antibiotics disrupt the gut microbiota, which promotes secondary infections. Restoring gut microbiota in patients with acute myeloid leukemia who have been exposed to antibiotics can reduce infections. This reduction in infections occurs during and after curative-intent chemotherapy (1)

Study overview

• A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled phase II trial


• 72 AML patients are involved in the study.


• Patients are randomized in a 2:1 ratio to either fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) (arm A) or placebo (arm B) after completing a course of antibacterial antibiotics.


• Up to 3 study treatments are administered over 3 months (1)

Primary outcome measures

Overall infection rate at 4 months (1)
