Aglatimagene besadenovec

Aglatimagene besadenovec is an investigational gene therapy product developed by Candel Therapeutics. It is a non-replicating adenoviral vector containing the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase gene (HSV-tk). The therapy works by transducing tumor cells to express HSV-tk, which sensitizes the cells to synthetic acyclic guanosine analogs such as valacyclovir. When valacyclovir is administered orally, it is converted into a toxic nucleotide analog by HSV-tk in the tumor cells, leading to their death.
