It is currently unclear whether the integration of novel diets for donors and patients in addition to fecal transplantation could increase the remission rate of fecal transplantation in refractory ulcerative colitis (1).
It is a three-arm, single-blind, randomized treatment trial testing a novel “Ulcerative colitis exclusion diet (UCED) vs Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) vs Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) + Ulcerative colitis exclusion diet (UCED) in 62 enrolled adults with mild–moderate, medication‑refractory Ulcerative Colitis (UC) (1)
Clinical remission
The ulcerative colitis exclusion diet (UCED) on its own resulted in higher rates of clinical remission and mucosal healing compared to single-donor, low-frequency fecal transplantation (FMT). Additionally, incorporating donor dietary conditioning did not enhance the outcomes of FMT (1).
