In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines, EPH receptor A2 is overexpressed in adherent cells. This overexpression depends on endothelial growth factor (EGFR) activation. Cell adhesion increases EGFR activation, leading to downstream activation of the MP1 and SRC signaling pathways, resulting in increased transcription of EphA2 mRNA.
EphA2 appears to be most frequently overexpressed in stage 1 and 2 colorectal cancer.
