Lactiplantibacillus (Lactobacillus) plantarum 21 (LAB 21) has a protective effect in Ulcerative colitis (UC). Rats with experimentally induced Ulcerative colitis (UC) had upregulated levels of tumor necrosis factor-alfa (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-17A, as well as an increased percentage of T helper 17 (Th17) cells. Treatment of rats with LAB 21 inhibited the upregulation of inflammatory cytokine levels and the proportion of T helper 17 cell (Th17).
