In the past decade, a significant advancement in the initial treatment of recurrent and/or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (R/M SCCHN) has been the introduction of cetuximab. This treatment is used in combination with platinum and 5-fluorouracil chemotherapy (CT), and is followed by maintenance with cetuximab, a regimen known as "EXTREME."
