Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) / HIV & Gut microbiota

Researchers studied how Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) / HIV and antiretroviral therapy affect gut bacteria in people from Uganda, Botswana, and the USA. They analyzed the gut microbiomes of 327 individuals with HIV and 260 without. The study found that while the types of bacteria affected by HIV varied by location, the changes in how these bacteria functioned were similar across all groups.
