MY ABSTRACT
Preeclampsia is a multisystem pregnancy disorder characterized by varying degrees of inadequate placental perfusion with release of soluble factors into the circulation. These factors cause vascular endothelial damage to the mother, leading to hypertension and multiple organ damage. Placental disease can reduce the growth of the fetus and lead to stillbirths. Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Prophylactic low-dose aspirin can reduce the risk of premature preeclampsia. When preeclampsia is diagnosed, there are no curative treatments other than delivery.
