SRY-box transcription factor 2 (SOX2)

SRY-box transcription factor 2 (SOX2) is a key protein that helps control how stem cells work. It keeps stem cells active and able to become different types of cells. SOX2 is important for deciding what kind of cell a stem cell will turn into, how fast cells grow, and how they change into other types. In embryos and developing brains, SOX2 plays a big role by attaching to DNA and affecting which genes are turned on or off, which is crucial for stem cells to renew themselves and decide their future paths.
