The natural compound 3,3 dimethyl-1-butanol (DMB), which exists widely in vinegar, red wines, and some grape seed oils, has been found to inhibit the microbial choline TMA lyase activity. Thus, this compound could inhibit atherosclerotic lesion development in Apoe−/− mice without alterations in circulating cholesterol levels
