Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) has multiple stages, with each stage having distinct characteristics.

The first stage is steatosis .

Steatohepatitis as second stage is characterized by inflammation in the liver (infiltration of immune cells, production of inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species ) and damage to hepatocytes.
