Staphylococcus aureus is significant in Cystic fibrosis (CF) because it is one of the first and most common bacteria to colonize the airways of CF patients, often establishing chronic infection early in life. The abnormal airway environment in CF -created by the genetic defect - provides a niche where pathogens like S. aureus can persist and contribute to lung disease progression. However, S. aureus infection is a consequence of the underlying genetic disease, not its cause.
