Ten patients with previously treated melanoma (stage IV) were included. Tumors were injected weekly for a total of up to nine treatments.

The authors' conclusion was that JX-594 replication, oncolysis, and expression of both transgenes were detected; replication was still evident even after several cycles. These results have implications for further clinical development of JX-594 and other transgene-armed oncolytic viruses.
