Ciprofloxacin has been found to lower the levels of a liver enzyme called CYP3A in rats. This study looks at whether changes in gut bacteria are part of why CYP3A levels drop. In mice with normal gut bacteria, CPX lowered the liver enzyme and affected how a drug called triazolam was processed. However, in mice without gut bacteria, CPX did not cause these changes.
