Hedgehog Signal transduction Pathway

In mammals, the Hedgehog Signal transduction Pathway is activated by paracrine signaling (2). The extracellular proteins involved are sonic hedgehog (SHH), desert hedgehog (DHH), and Indian hedgehog (IHH) (2). Dispatched1 (DISP1) and SCUBE2 mediate the release of Hh proteins (2).

The Hedgehog signaling pathway is linked to the cell cycle (1). It plays a key role in the quiescence of leukemic stem cells, which is a temporary resting state without cell replication (1). Leukemic stem cells are believed to cause leukemia relapses (1). Understanding the Hedgehog pathway is crucial for improving treatments for acute myeloid leukemia and preventing disease relapse (1).
