Only seven out of 96 NAFLD patients were cytolysin positive, unlike what we observed in alcoholic hepatitis. These patients did not show increased liver disease activity compared to those who were cytolysin-negative. This suggests that the association of cytolysin carriage with worse clinical outcomes might be specific to alcoholic hepatitis.
