Clostridium perfringens has been identified as a potential contributor to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Clostridium perfringens was found in the mucosal biopsies of eight out of nine pediatric gastrointestinal patients in one study. Large Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) datasets revealed a higher prevalence of Clostridium perfringens in stool samples of adult IBD patients (18.7-27.1%) compared to healthy controls (5.1%).
