Qa-1

Qa-1 is a nonclassical MHC class Ib molecule found in mice, which is analogous to the human HLA-E. This molecule plays a crucial role in the immune system of mice, similar to how HLA-E functions in humans.

Unlike classical MHC class I molecules, which are highly polymorphic and present a wide variety of peptides to T cells, nonclassical MHC class Ib molecules like Qa-1 have limited polymorphism and often present a restricted set of peptides.

Functions of Qa-1

• Antigen Presentation: Qa-1 has the capacity to act as an antigen-presentation molecule for CD8+ T cells. This means that Qa-1 can present peptide antigens to CD8+ T cells, which are crucial for the immune response against infected or malignant cells.
