Cytotoxic T cells (CTLs) recognize MHC class I / HLA class I human glycopeptide complexes. CD8 serves both as an adhesion molecule for class I MHC molecules and as a coreceptor with the T-Cell Receptor (TCR) for T cell activation.
CD8 can bind soluble class I MHC tetramers and mediate T cell adhesion. CD8’s interaction with class I MHC is not fixed but is developmentally regulated through the T cell’s glycosylation state.
