The sialyltransferase Sialyltransferase (ST6Gal-I)'s mRNA expression was mainly localized to epithelial cells. Their activity was increased in tumor tissue. A significant correlation was found between signet ring cells and increased ST6Gal 1 Sialyltransferase (ST6Gal-I) activity in tumor tissue or mucosa. High levels of ST6Gal 1 Sialyltransferase (ST6Gal-I) in tumor tissue correlated with secondary local tumor recurrence.
