Synbiotics represent a promising but still experimental adjunctive therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), no synbiotic is yet approved specifically for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) treatment.
There are emerging synbiotics being studied for the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), primarily targeting the gut–brain axis to relieve both gastrointestinal (GI) and behavioral symptoms. A 2025 systematic review summarized 33 clinical studies, including 5 on synbiotics, and found variable but promising effects on behavioral and GI symptoms in autistic children, though evidence remains preliminary.
The precision synbiotics, as referenced in NCT04655326, adjusted the gut microbiota and might serve as a supplement to improve gastrointestinal and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)-related symptoms.
